Carne is a unique guide to the world, both how to understand it and how to deal with it.  An author of three books and a regular commentator on world affairs in international media, Carne has seen the world from many diverse vantage points - from those of the powerful to the marginalised, working for a powerful country and tiny island states or desert liberation movements.  He uses a variety of innovative tools to interpret, explain and engage with the world.  These are not conventional skills.

Diplomacy - Carne has given advice and instruction on effective diplomacy to the representatives of over forty countries and political movements.  The skills and insights he teaches are unique, garnered from 35 years experience at the frontlines of contemporary diplomacy.

Critical thinking - Originally taught the conventional theories of politics and economics, Carne realised that he needed better methods to understand what's really going on.  He developed a rich variety of analytical tools and frameworks, including complexity theory, post-structuralism and psychology, to unmask power and how it portrays the world.

International Affairs - Carne has been analysing and explaining international affairs for forty years, advising diplomats from over forty countries and political groups and commentating on events for multiple media outlets.  His analysis goes far beyond conventional state-based and linear interpretations.

Negotiation - Carne has negotiated agreements on the most difficult issues - arms control, terrorism and climate - at the highest level: bilateral talks between countries and multilateral negotiations at the UN.
